The synergy class. Titans tank, Hunters burst — Warlocks win through ability loops: heal the team, weaken the room, spawn turrets and buddies, and keep grenades and Supers cycling forever. The Monument update added Soul Siphon to Voidwalker and changed the stat math, so modern Warlock buildcraft is about layered engines rather than one perfect stat spike. Built on the Monument baseline, Destiny 2's final content sandbox; these are settled recommendations, not a rotating tier list.
If you're returning, the toolkit grew a lot — but the soul is the same. Three pillars define modern Warlock play.
Healing Rift keeps you and allies alive, Empowering Rift boosts weapon damage, and Solar/Prismatic can swap to Phoenix Dive. Most subclasses build their economy around class-ability casts, so the Class stat matters more than it used to.
The Monument update gave Voidwalker a new aspect that turns ability pressure into a stronger Void loop. Pair it with Feed the Void, Orbs, and Void Breaches to keep Devour, weaken, and Super generation flowing in dense content.
The Prismatic mechanic: fill both a Light and a Dark meter (by dealing Light/Dark damage) to go Transcendent — a special grenade plus big ability regen and a damage boost. Modern Warlock buildcraft revolves around keeping it up.
Each element has a named Warlock identity and a signature aspect or two. Prismatic mixes Light and Dark, which is why it's the most flexible — and the current go-to for endgame.
Healing & buffs. Touch of Flame supercharges grenades, Heat Rises enables aerial play. Radiant + Restoration keep you and the team alive. The reliable support pick.
Devour is the engine — Feed the Void turns kills into healing and ability energy, while Soul Siphon gives Voidwalker a stronger Monument-era loop. Best solo-survivability Warlock; pairs with weaken and volatile rounds.
Speed and chain lightning. Arc Soul gives you a damage buddy, Lightning Surge is a melee-teleport nuke. Strong amplified add-clear.
Crowd control through freezing. Bleak Watcher turns your grenade into a slowing turret — the backbone of "set up and hold" builds.
Summon Threadlings — little homing damage units. Weaver's Call spawns them on Rift, Weavewalk is a strong defensive aspect.
Mix one Light + one Dark super and aspects from across the kit — e.g. Devour + Bleak Watcher + an Arc buddy. Feeds Transcendence. The endgame default.
Current mid-2026 setups, each anchored by an Exotic. Remember the golden rule: the Exotic is the core, but the build only works when aspects, fragments, mods, and stats all push the same way. Archetype suggestions link back to the Armor 3.0 system.
Weapon-agnostic engines for general play: the loop lives in the exotic armor + subclass, so drop in whatever exotic weapon you're leveling a catalyst on. (Save locked weapon loadouts for raids and DPS — the sniper rotation below, or the central slotting rules.)
A Solar melee kill grants brief unlimited Solar Grenade energy. The engine is the gloves plus your melee, so bring whatever exotic you're chasing.
Ionic Traces come faster and hand ability energy to nearby allies, keeping you Amplified. A pure ability engine — the gun slot is free.
Void ability kills supercharge all ability regen. Devour stays up off any Void source, so any exotic you're leveling rides along.
The five builds above are neutral-game engines — they keep you alive and the room clearing. When a raid, dungeon, or Pantheon-style check opens a real damage window, the Warlock ceiling is a different shape: a sniper swap rotation that pre-stacks weapon buffs and self-applied debuffs, then drops a Light Super into a debuffed boss. Same class, damage-phase loadout.
Pre-stage before the window opens, then hold a crit lane:
Build it like the weapon-DPS loadout it is:
Don't overload one player. If the fireteam needs you on infrastructure, take a role instead of the personal-DPS ceiling.
The same Izanagi + A499 rotation, run under Well of Radiance. Lower personal burst than a damage Super, but you hold the team's buff floor. Boots of the Assembler or Starfire to taste.
Carry the debuff instead of the damage. Tractor Cannon for close, refreshable bosses; Fafnir's Quantum Nova for a ranged Weaken. Personal total drops, fireteam total climbs.
Well + Starfire Protocol + a rocket or heavy GL. Heals, buffs, throws constant grenades, forgives mistakes — the returning-player damage build, not the ceiling.
Warlock's closest single-Super burst. Strong, but boss size and movement decide it — and Facet of Courage already favors a Light Super in the Getaway shell.
The build's artifact. It packages Sniper's Meditation with Radiant Orbs, Shieldcrush, and Prismatic / Transcendence support — so it reinforces the actual subclass loop, not just the sniper.
The pure-sniper alternative. It also carries Sniper's Meditation plus sniper reload quality-of-life (Reload at Range), without the Prismatic utility — the pick if you're leaning on the rotation rather than the subclass loop.
Fragments (Embers, Echoes, Sparks, Whispers, Threads) are the small modifiers that make a subclass loop. You unlock slots from your Aspects. Below are the staple picks each Warlock subclass actually runs — not the full list, just the ones that carry builds.
Benevolence — big grenade/melee/class regen after buffing or healing allies (the support engine).
Torches — powered melee makes you Radiant.
Searing — scorched kills grant melee energy + a Firesprite.
Empyrean — Solar kills extend Restoration & Radiant.
Persistence — Devour, overshield & invis last longer (keeps Devour alive).
Undermining — your Void grenades weaken.
Instability — grenade kills grant Volatile Rounds.
Harvest — defeating weakened targets creates an Orb of Power and a Void Breach.
Ions — jolted kills create Ionic Traces.
Discharge — Arc weapon kills can create Ionic Traces.
Shock — your Arc grenades jolt targets.
Resistance — damage resistance while surrounded.
Rime — Frost Armor lasts longer and stacks higher.
Torment — taking damage builds grenade energy.
Conduction — nearby Stasis shards track to you.
Shards — shattering a crystal speeds grenade recharge (more shatters extend it).
Rebirth — Strand weapon kills can create Threadlings.
Generation — dealing damage builds grenade energy.
Warding — Orb pickups grant Woven Mail (DR).
Ascent — using your grenade reloads your weapon & boosts handling.
A strong build is never carried by the Exotic alone. Get these layers aligned and even a modest setup feels great; skip them and a "meta" build feels weak.
Set up armor mods before anything else — they're where a lot of the loop lives:

Warlock wins held angles: rifts, healing, and aerial movement let you out-sustain a peek fight and own a position your team can play around.
