Void

The control element. Void weakens, suppresses and detonates — then keeps you alive with Devour, Overshields and Invisibility while the room comes apart. One element, all three classes — this page is the cross-class map; per-class full builds live in the class guides. Built on the Monument baseline, Destiny 2's final content sandbox; these are settled recommendations, not a rotating tier list.

What Void actually is

Void is control and sustain that takes the room apart while keeping you unkillable — debuff targets, detonate them, and use Devour, Overshield and Invisibility to never go down.

What wins fights

Three jobs, run in a loop:

  • Debuff & detonate — Weaken makes targets take more damage; Volatile rounds make them blow up when shot.
  • Stay alive — Devour heals on kill and extends itself, Void Overshield soaks damage, Invisibility resets fights.
  • Feed the engine — Void Breach pickups refund class-ability energy so the cycle restarts.

What old guides get wrong

Several pre-9.7.0 assumptions are dead. Treat anything older as suspect:

  • Titan's Ward of Dawn was reworked — bubble behavior and buffs changed.
  • Void kits carry 4th Aspects (Warlock's Soul Siphon) and melees like Hunter's Phantom Surge.
  • Ability cooldown cap moved 190 → 125, and bosses now give -60% super energy from damage dealt.

Control

Void doesn't just damage — it removes options. Weaken slows and amplifies, Suppress shuts off enemy abilities outright. You dictate the fight before it starts.

Sustain

Void is the self-healing-on-kill element. Devour means every kill fully heals you and refreshes the timer — you hold ground and keep feeding the loop.

Stealth

Invisibility turns survival into tempo. Drop off radar to reset a bad fight, revive safely, or reposition — the neutral game carries between detonations.

Monument baseline: last gameplay patch Update 9.7.0.3 (2026-07-07). Update 9.7.0.4 (2026-07-28) shipped without notes; Update 9.7.0.5 (2026-10-07) is an anti-cheat back-end fix only. Checked 2026-10-08. Only claims on Bungie's active Known Issues list are flagged inline. Full per-class builds live in the Warlock, Titan and Hunter class guides; the Light+Dark blend is in Prismatic; stats live in Armor 3.0; the build loop is wired up in Buildcrafting.
01 · Verb Glossary

The Void keywords

Every Void build is a sentence built from these words. Learn the verbs and the fragment/aspect text reads itself.

VolatileDetonate on damage

Tags a target so it explodes when you deal further damage to it (or on its death). The core Void add-clear verb — turns a magazine into chain blasts. Spreading Volatile to fresh targets needs a source like Controlled Demolition or Destabilizing Rounds.

WeakenDamage debuff

A target takes increased damage from all sources and is slowed. The premier raid/boss debuff verb — apply it before the damage phase and the whole fireteam hits harder.

SuppressLock out abilities

Shuts off an enemy's abilities and interrupts what they're casting — stops a super, grounds a flyer. Hard control; also stuns Overload Champions.

DevourHeal + extend on kill

Every kill fully restores your health, grants grenade energy, and refreshes Devour's own timer. The backbone of Void survivability — kill to live, live to kill.

InvisibilityOff radar

Drops you off the enemy radar and out of sight. Use it to reset a losing fight, revive a teammate safely, or reposition for a flank. The Hunter signature, shared across the kit.

Void OvershieldDamage soak

A purple absorbing shield layered over your health that soaks incoming damage and, with fragments, boosts weapon damage while active. The Titan-flavored "tank" verb.

Void BreachPickup → class energy

A small Void pickup created by specific fragments, Aspects or perks — for example Echo of Harvest (defeating weakened targets). Grab it for class-ability energy (and, with the right fragments, Devour or an Overshield). The fuel that closes the loop.

Stun: OverloadSuppress utility

Not a buff but worth flagging: Suppression stuns Overload Champions, so a Suppressor-grenade or Suppressing-glaive loop is handy anti-Champion backup. It doesn't replace checking the activity's weapon-frame Champion coverage, the canonical system this era.

02 · The Three Classes

Void, per class

Same element, three identities. Each leans on a different verb. Treat the names below as the shape of each class's kit.

Void · Warlock
VoidwalkerClass ability · Rift
Supers: Nova Bomb · Nova Warp
Leans on: Devour / Volatile

The Devour engine. Nova Bomb is the big ranged detonation; the Nova Lance follow-up comes from Skull of Dire Ahamkara, not the baseline super. Nova Warp is the close-range blink super. Signature aspects: Feed the Void (Void ability kills grant Devour) and the Soul Siphon aspect.

Identity is the Rift plus the Devour loop — kill to stay full, throw grenades to keep Devour and Volatile rolling. The reliable solo-survival pick.

Void · Titan
SentinelClass ability · Barricade
Supers: Sentinel Shield · Ward of Dawn
Leans on: Overshield / Suppress

The shield bruiser. Sentinel Shield is the roaming guard-and-bash super; Ward of Dawn is the bubble. Signature aspects: Bastion (Overshields on barricade) and Offensive Bulwark (Overshield empowers melee and grenade).

The bread-and-butter playstyle is the Overshield loop: Shield Throw feeds Void Overshield, Offensive Bulwark turns that shield into stronger abilities, and you hold the line behind a Barricade. Add Controlled Demolition for Volatile or Echo of Undermining grenades for Weaken. Tank that can also debuff.

Void · Hunter
NightstalkerClass ability · Dodge
Supers: Shadowshot: Deadfall · Spectral Blades
Leans on: Invisibility / Weaken

The stealth controller. Shadowshot: Deadfall tethers and weakens a whole pack; Spectral Blades is the invisible roaming-knife super. Signature aspects: Stylish Executioner (weakened/suppressed/volatile kills grant invis + Truesight) and Vanishing Step (Dodge → invis); the kit also brings the Phantom Surge melee — a forward dash that deals damage and grants a Void Overshield.

The hook is the invis loop — dodge or kill to vanish, reposition, repeat — supercharged by Gyrfalcon's Hauberk (Volatile rounds out of invis) or Omnioculus (team invis uptime). Smoke Bomb's Prismatic Invisibility fix shipped in 9.7.0.2, and the Phantom Surge tether bug with Stylish Executioner was fixed in 9.7.0.3, so the invis loop is live. Leans hard on Invisibility and Weaken.

03 · Fragments

The "Echo of …" pool

Void fragments are all Echoes. Your two equipped Aspects set how many fragment slots you get, and many Echoes carry a stat bonus or penalty — so picking fragments is also picking stats. Below are the staples.

Echo of Persistence
Void buffs you apply — Devour, Overshield, Invisibility — last longer; the universal duration stretcher.
Echo of Starvation
Picking up an Orb of Power or Void Breach grants Devour — an easy way to start the heal loop.
Echo of Undermining
Your Void grenades weaken targets — bolts the debuff verb straight onto your nade.
Echo of Vigilance
Defeating a target while your shields are depleted grants a Void Overshield — a clutch survival rider.
Echo of Instability
Grenade kills grant Volatile Rounds to your Void weapons — the add-clear engine.
Echo of Harvest
Defeating weakened targets creates an Orb of Power and a Void Breach — bridges Void into the mod economy.
Echo of Remnants
Your Void grenade lingering effects last longer (Vortex, Void Wall, Void Spike, Axion Bolt) — more area denial.
Echo of Expulsion
Void ability kills cause the target to explode — extra AoE off every detonation.
Echo of Cessation
Finisher final blows cause nearby targets to become Volatile — chains a finisher into a blast.
Echo of Obscurity
Finisher final blows grant Invisibility — the easy "vanish on demand" rider.
Echo of Domineering
Defeating a suppressed target creates a Void Breach, and suppressing reloads your weapon — debuff to fuel.
Echo of Leeching
Melee final blows start health regen for you and nearby allies — a melee-leaning sustain rider.
How to read slots: Void gives a fixed fragment pool, but how many you can slot is decided by your two Aspects — some Aspects grant more fragment sockets than others. Stack the stat riders deliberately (e.g. an Echo that adds Health if you want survivability). Prismatic does not use Echoes — it has its own Facet pool, covered in the Prismatic guide.
03b · Wiring It Up

Stats, mods & the loop

A Void build is never carried by the exotic alone — the loop only closes when stats, mods and fragments push the same way. The full stat math lives in Armor 3.0 and the wiring walkthrough in Buildcrafting; here's the Void-specific shape.

The mod layer

Set armor mods before tuning stats — a lot of the loop lives here:

  • Siphon (helmet) — Void weapon kills make Orbs of Power; pairs with Echo of Harvest.
  • Firepower / Heavy Handed (arms) — Orbs on grenade / melee kills, which your Volatile loop produces constantly.
  • Bomber / Outreach / Distribution (class item) — ability energy on class-ability use, for Rift / Dodge / Barricade cadence.
  • Void Surge (legs) — bonus Void weapon damage while you hold Armor Charge — biggest on weeks Void is the featured surge.

Stats by build shape

Translate the loop into the 9.7.0 stat system:

  • Devour / grenade builds (Briarbinds, Contraverse) → grenade-leaning archetype for faster nade uptime.
  • Sustain / solo (Omnioculus, Devour) → Health so Devour and Overshield survival stay topped.
  • Invis / support (Gyrfalcon, Omnioculus) → Class energy for Dodge cadence and invis uptime.
  • Don't dump Class — every Void class spends class-ability energy to keep buffs alive.
Cooldown reality check: with the cap moved 190 → 125 and bosses giving -60% super energy from damage, you can no longer brute-force a single mega-stat — layered ability regen (Starvation, Devour grenade refunds, Bomber mods) beats one tall spike.

How it plays: Dodge for Invisibility (Vanishing Step), break stealth into Volatile Rounds (Gyrfalcon's), shred the pack, then Stylish Executioner off a weakened or volatile kill puts you straight back in invis. Deadfall tethers and weakens for boss phases. Premier sustained add-clear with constant uptime. Armor: Class/Weapon-leaning archetype · push Class for Dodge cadence.
PvE vs PvP: In PvE the verdicts above hold — Void is a top control/sustain element and the Devour and Gyrfalcon builds are reference-tier. In PvP Void's job is stealth, survivability, and shutdown: Invisibility controls when fights start and lets you reposition or revive unseen, Devour and Overshield keep you in the trade, Suppress denies an enemy ability or super outright, and Weaken sets up a teamshot. Nova Bomb and Spectral Blades are clutch supers. The "best" tags above are PvE-first; with the sandbox settled on the Monument baseline, those values are stable. → PvP: Crucible hub · PvP builds

Other Void exotics worth knowing

The builds above are starters, not the only answers. A few class exotics define their own Void loops — pick by what the activity needs.

Warlock options

Contraverse Hold — charged Void grenades grant damage resist and partial grenade refund; the classic nade-spam engine. Briarbinds for a redeployable Child of the Old Gods. Pick Nezarec's Sin for ability regen, Contraverse for grenade uptime.

Titan options

Ursa Furiosa — guarding with Sentinel Shield refunds super energy; the team-saving block exotic. Second Chance grants an extra Shield Throw melee with built-in anti-Barrier. Doom Fang leans offense, Ursa leans defensive super loops.

Hunter options

Omnioculus — team invisibility and melee refund, the support-stealth staple. Graviton Forfeit for invis duration. Gyrfalcon's for Volatile damage, Omnioculus for keeping the fireteam unseen.

Take it to a full build → these are starters; the complete Monument-era builds live on the class pages — Warlock Void (Devour engine · Nezarec's Sin) · Titan Void (Overshield Wall · Doom Fang) · Hunter Void (Invis Volatile loop · Gyrfalcon's Hauberk).
05 · The Loop

How the engine cycles

Every Void build, stripped to its skeleton, is the same four-beat cycle. Trigger Devour, detonate with Volatile, harvest the fuel, reset survivability, repeat. The diagram is the whole element on one page.

Arrow to node two, Volatile Rounds detonate targets when you damage them. Arrow to node three, the kills sustain Devour and — with Echo of Harvest — drop Void Breach pickups that refund class-ability energy. Arrow to node four, the refund resets Invisibility and Overshield uptime.
