Prophecy is the cleanest teacher of Light/Dark fundamentals in the game — the same mote loop every encounter, dressed differently. Master one room and you've mastered all three. The thing that wipes groups isn't the bosses; it's collecting the wrong mote colour and resetting your charge.

The one rule: lighting = mote colour

Only Knight Echoes drop motes. Kill one while standing in the light for a Light mote; kill one while standing in shadow for a Dark mote.

Pick up five of the same colour to form a single charge. Carry it to the matching pillar (white = Light, black = Dark) and melee/strong-attack to deposit and cleanse it. Mix colours and you waste the run.

What old guides get wrong

  1. There is no dungeon exotic here — don't chase one. The draw is the Trials-of-the-Nine-styled weapons and armor.
  2. Loot was reprised in 2025's Rite of the Nine with new perks and a second origin trait, so old roll lists no longer apply.
  3. This is the bridge dungeon: the mote loop here is the foundation for every modern dungeon. Learn it properly once.
The Fiction

Why you're here

The Light and Dark motes below aren't arbitrary — you are inside a test the Nine built to see which way you'll bend. Here's the story the dungeon is telling while you solve it.

A realm shaped by the Nine

You have been summoned by the Nine — cosmic entities born from the solar system's dark matter — into a pocket realm they have shaped from Light and Darkness held in perfect balance. They are watching the war of the two powers, and they want to know which way you will bend.

That is why the whole realm runs on equilibrium: you gather both mote types and cleanse to shift polarity. The point is not raw strength but proof that you can command both forces without being ruled by either.

Balance what the realm demands, keep your footing through its illusions, and show the Nine a Guardian who can carry Light and Dark alike.

Core Mechanic

The Light & Dark mote economy

Every encounter is the same three-step verb: read the room's lighting state, farm the matching motes off Knight Echoes, deposit a charge to flip a pillar. Get the colour right and the room opens. Get it wrong and you start over.

Stand in the bright

Light

› Kill a Knight in light
Drops a Light mote. Five of them make one charge. Deposit on the white pillar to cleanse the Light veil from the room.
Stand in the shadow

Dark

› Kill a Knight in shadow
Drops a Dark mote. Five make one charge. Deposit on the black pillar to cleanse the Dark veil. Don't mix colours in your hand.
Read & deposit

Cleanse

› Match the room's state
A room veiled in Dark needs a Dark charge to clear; a room veiled in Light needs a Light charge. The pillar/probe tells you which.
The reading skill that carries the whole dungeon: before farming, look at the room. Is it bathed in light or drowned in shadow? That tells you which matching charge it wants — Light for a Light room, Dark for a Dark room. In the Hexahedron a floating probe (the wisp players nickname "Toland") points at the correct pillar; in the boss fight, alternating Light/Dark rooms tell you which to deposit. Call the colour out loud with your team so nobody deposits the wrong charge. (See the route & encounter maps.)
Mechanic Checkpoints

What moves the encounter

Brief this before each pull: the progress trigger is what advances the room; the fail/wipe trigger is what must be cleansed, deposited, or called immediately.

The Phalanx Echo

Progress: kill Knight Echoes while standing in the correct light or dark, build five matching motes, and deposit on the matching plates to strip the shield for DPS.

Fail/wipe: mixed-color motes disappear into the wrong charge, wrong deposits waste the cycle, and Phalanx knockback kills players near the edge.

The Hexahedron

Progress: follow Toland's position, make the matching mote charge, deposit at the indicated pillar, flip the cube, and repeat until the Centurion Echoes spawn and die.

Fail/wipe: depositing at the wrong pillar does not progress the room. Gravity flips, snipers, and falls punish teams that do not regroup before each rotation.

The Kell Echo

Progress: cleanse all three main-arena plates with the right mote color, enter the Light/Dark chase, stay close enough to manage Dark Entropy, and damage the boss through the route.

Fail/wipe: Dark Entropy at ten stacks kills the player. Wrong mote colors, the Taken Hobgoblin's sniper pressure, and losing the boss path turn the final encounter into a reset.

Field Maps

The realm at a glance

Prophecy is a journey through the Nine's pocket dimension — a wasteland of motes, a shielded Phalanx arena, a rotating cube, and a fractured boss hall. Here's the whole route start-to-finish; each encounter below carries its own detailed map next to the walkthrough.

The Journey

Three encounters, one loop

The whole dungeon is the mote loop stress-tested in three shapes. The opening Wasteland teaches it for free; the bosses just add pressure — adds, debuffs, and a moving target for your charge.

1
Encounter · The Wasteland → Phalanx Echo

The Phalanx Echo

"Learn the loop in the open, then turn it on a shielded wall of shields."
Lore lens · why it works

The Phalanx Echo is not a real Cabal — it is an Echo, a projection the realm casts in a Cabal shape as a reflection of your own choices. You defeat it not with brute damage but by balancing the motes it demands, answering the test's question rather than out-shooting a phantom.

The loop
  1. In the opening Wasteland, kill Knight Echoes in the matching lighting for motes, form a charge of 5, and deposit on the gate pillars to open the path. This is the tutorial — do it cleanly.
  2. At the Phalanx arena, read each plate's veil: a Dark-veiled plate wants a Dark charge, a Light-veiled plate wants a Light charge.
  3. Farm the matching motes, carry a charge, and deposit to cleanse the plates (there are pairs around the arena).
  4. Cleansing the plates strips the Phalanx Echo's shield and opens the damage window. Pile on DPS.
  5. Repeat the cleanse → damage cycle until it falls.
CoordIn a team, everyone farms the same colour at once so nobody fumbles a mixed charge. Call "going Light" / "going Dark" before you start killing.
AddsTaken Psions split when shot — clear them fast or you're swimming in red bars. Watch for Phalanx knockback shoves near ledges.
DPSThe window is generous but not infinite. A healing Super plus a heavy-hitting Special/Heavy drops the Echo in one or two windows.
Map · Phalanx EchoEncounter 1 · The Wasteland
Phalanx Echo encounter map A circular arena with the Phalanx Echo at the top behind a shield. Plates around the arena carry Light or Dark veils. Kill Knight Echoes in matching lighting for motes, form a five-mote charge, and deposit on the matching-colour pillar to cleanse each plate. Cleansing the plates strips the boss shield and opens the damage window. Phalanx Echo shielded until cleansed Light pillar clears Light veil Dark pillar clears Dark veil Knight Echoes → motes (×5 = charge) ↑ stand in LIGHT to farm Light ↑ stand in SHADOW to farm Dark ⚠ Psions split when shot — clear add waves before depositing
Light pillar / mote Dark pillar / mote Add hazard
Solo: Totally doable. Do one colour at a time start-to-finish — farm five matching motes, deposit, then switch your attention. Don't leave a half-charge sitting while you panic-kill adds; the room is patient if you are.
Stale advice to skip: Old "kill everything for motes" guides are wrong — only Knight Echoes drop motes, and only the lighting you're standing in sets the colour. Acolytes, Psions and Phalanxes give you nothing but a headache.
2
Encounter · The Hexahedron

The Hexahedron

"A cube that turns the world. Follow the wisp, or wander the inside of a die forever."
Lore lens · why it works

The Hexahedron is a cube-realm ruled by the Nine's gravity, its walls and floors traded at will. The probe-and-pillar puzzle is a test of perception under disorientation — the Nine watching whether you can hold onto truth when the realm itself refuses to stay still beneath you.

The loop
  1. You're sealed inside a giant cube. A floating probe — the white wisp players call "Toland" — drifts toward the correct pillar for this phase. Find it first; everything else waits.
  2. Read the pillar's veil to know which colour you need, then kill Knight Echoes (spawned by Hobgoblins) in the matching lighting for motes.
  3. Form a charge of 5 and deposit at the probe's pillar. This flips the cube — gravity and lighting rotate, opening the next face.
  4. Repeat the read → farm → deposit flip across several rotations (about six environment flips) as the cube carries you upward and inward.
  5. The final face drops you into a fight with two Taken Centurion Echoes — clear them to finish and move on.
TolandThe probe is the whole encounter. If you can't see it, you can't progress. Give yourself a few seconds each phase to scan for the wisp before committing a charge — depositing on the wrong pillar does nothing.
FallsEach cube flip re-orients gravity. Stand on stable ground when the rotation triggers, or you can get flung. Falls, not enemies, end most Hexahedron runs.
RolesOne player calls the probe and the colour while others farm. Keep charges single-colour — a mixed hand wastes a whole rotation.
Map · The HexahedronEncounter 2 · The Cube
Hexahedron encounter map A cube chamber with four pillars on its faces. A floating probe, the white wisp called Toland, points at the correct pillar for the current phase. Farm matching motes from Knight Echoes spawned by Hobgoblins, deposit a five-mote charge at the probe's pillar to flip the cube, and repeat across several rotations until two Centurion Echoes appear at the end. PROBE ("Toland") points at the right pillar Pillar N Pillar W Pillar E Pillar S Hobgoblins → Knights → motes flips ×6 ⚠ each deposit re-orients gravity — be on solid ground before it flips
Probe / target pillar Pillars / cube Gravity flip hazard
Solo: The probe is easier to track alone since nobody's depositing for you — but you carry every charge yourself, so be patient. Scan, farm the colour, deposit, ride the flip. The Centurions at the end are a soft finish.
Stale advice to skip: Some old guides describe fixed pillar orders or memorized rotations. The probe is authoritative every phase — trust the wisp over any sequence you read online.
3
Boss · The Fractured Hall

The Kell Echo

"Three echoes, one truth. Cleanse the room, then chase the boss through the breaking world."
Lore lens · why it works

The Kell Echo wears the shape of a Fallen Kell, the final reflection the realm throws at you. The stacking Dark Entropy is the test's real question made lethal — can you carry the Darkness without being consumed by it? Cleanse in time and you pass; hoard it and it takes you, exactly as the Nine intend.

The loop — the whole dungeon, at once
  1. In the main arena, three plates need cleansing. Each plate has a Kell Echo clone standing at a paracausal fount; banish a clone by depositing a matching-colour charge at its pillar, and a Devoured Ogre spawns where it stood.
  2. Read each plate's veil, farm the matching motes off Knight Echoes in the right lighting, and deposit a charge (×5) at each of the three plates.
  3. Clearing all three opens the path. You now chase the real Kell Echo through a fractured hallway split into alternating Light and Dark rooms.
  4. The Dark Entropy debuff stacks on you in the hall and is lethal at 10 stacks. Manage it by chasing the real Kell Echo and staying inside its protective aura/ring during damage — do not let it cap.
  5. Reach the boss's platform, deposit/cleanse as the room demands, and burst the Kell Echo in the damage window with Supers and Heavy.
  6. Repeat the cleanse → chase → burst cycle until it dies. Loot the final chest.
10 stacksDark Entropy at 10 = death. It's the #1 killer here. Watch the stack count, stay inside the Kell Echo's aura, and keep moving toward the next platform — distance is what kills you.
OgresThe Devoured Ogres hit hard and a Taken Hobgoblin snipes you constantly during the chase. Use cover, and don't farm motes out in the open line-of-fire.
DPSWith a healing Super (Well / Song of Flame) and stacked Heavy, a coordinated team drops the Kell Echo in one or two windows. Apply a debuff first if you have one.
ChestThe final reward chest drops after the kill. See the Loot section.
Map · Kell EchoEncounter 3 · The Fractured Hall
Kell Echo boss map A main arena with three plates to cleanse; a Kell Echo clone stands at each plate's fount and is banished by depositing a matching-colour charge, spawning a Devoured Ogre. After cleansing all three plates, the player chases the real Kell Echo through a fractured hallway — dodging its Taken Hobgoblin sniper back-up — while a Dark Entropy debuff stacks and becomes lethal at ten. Stay inside the boss's protective aura as it teleports backward, then burst at each platform. Main arena · cleanse 3 plates Plate 1 Plate 2 Plate 3 3 clones at founts — banish for Ogres · Hobgoblin snipes Fractured hall · chase the boss Light room Dark room Light room Kell Echo · burst Dark Entropy ≥10 = death ⚠ stay inside Kell Echo's aura — distance stacks Dark Entropy to lethal
Light plate / room Dark plate / room Clones / Ogres / death
Solo: The hardest solo encounter in the dungeon — Devoured Ogres plus a Taken Hobgoblin sniper plus a stacking timer. Lean on survivability (restoration, devour, or invis), do one plate colour at a time, and treat Dark Entropy management as priority one over kills. Patience beats speed solo.
Stale advice to skip: Ignore exact damage-phase numbers and "one-phase" claims from old videos — Prophecy is power-floored, so the cleanse-then-burst structure is what matters, not a specific number. A coordinated team with stacked Heavy and a healing Super comfortably one- or two-phases the Kell Echo.
Loadouts

Meta loadouts

Prophecy is power-floored and forgiving, so almost anything clears it. These are the efficient picks: a heavy hitter for boss windows, reliable add-clear for the mote farms, and survivability for the Kell Echo hall. Build around one DPS option + one add-clear + a survivable subclass.

Boss DPS

Phalanx & Kell Echo windows
Still Hunt Exotic
Paired with Hunter's Celestial Nighthawk, the Golden Gun mode chunks an Echo's bar in a single window.
Cataclysmic / Heavy LFR
Bait-and-Switch or high-uptime Linear Fusions — top legendary sustained DPS at range, perfect for stationary Echoes.
Whisper of the Worm Exotic
Heavy precision sniper — huge per-shot damage; landing rapid precision hits refills the mag from reserves (White Nail), so a full reserve pool sustains a long damage phase.
Gjallarhorn Exotic
Buffs the whole fireteam's rockets; bring it if a teammate is on a rocket DPS plan.

Add Clear

Mote farms & ambient waves
Sunshot / Graviton Lance Exotic
Chain-explosion primaries that delete Acolyte and Psion packs while you farm Knights.
Riskrunner / Osteo Striga Exotic
Chain-lightning and poison spread — effortless room clear, excellent solo.
Witherhoard Exotic
Passive area damage to thin adds and tick the boss while you reposition for a charge.
A Sudden Death
The dungeon's own shotgun — One-Two Punch + Trench Barrel makes it a panic-button melee bruiser for cornered farms.

Survivability

Kell Echo hall & entropy
Tractor Cannon Exotic
Debuff the Echo for a team-wide damage boost right before a burst window.
Healing & cleanse tools
Restoration, devour, or woven mail keep you alive while you manage Dark Entropy and Ogres.
Invisibility / movement
Stealth resets snipers' aim and buys time to reach the next room before entropy caps.
Warlock
Well of Radiance / Song of Flame

A healing Super under the boss covers DPS and survival at once. Prismatic gives flexible healing plus add-clear aspects for the mote farms.

Titan
Prismatic / Thundercrash

Thundercrash is a clean burst on a stationary Echo; Prismatic mixes in healing and ad-clear to taste for the Kell hall.

Hunter
Prismatic + Golden Gun

Golden Gun with Celestial Nighthawk is a one-shot nuke; invis aspects trivialize the Hobgoblin sniper in the final fight.

Loadout note: For a dungeon this forgiving, the gap between "meta" and "what you already own" barely matters. Bring what you're comfortable with; mote discipline carries the run, not your DPS sheet.
Speedrun

Speed notes, not gospel

Fast Prophecy runs come from mote discipline first — never fumbling a charge, never depositing the wrong colour.

1

Single-colour charges

The biggest time loss isn't combat — it's mixing motes and wasting a charge. Commit to one colour, deposit, then switch. In a team, everyone farms the same colour at once.

2

Call the probe

In the Hexahedron, one player scans for the wisp and calls the pillar while others pre-farm motes. Reading the probe fast is the entire skill ceiling of that room.

3

Manage entropy, then kill

In the Kell hall, Dark Entropy management beats greed. A clean, never-capped run through the rooms is faster than dying at 10 stacks and re-clearing.

4

Respect the falls

Gravity flips and ledge knockbacks end more runs than enemies do. Be on solid ground before a cube flip, and don't farm in the open line-of-fire of the Hobgoblin sniper.

5

Do secrets on purpose

Prophecy also has two secret chests and the Urn It collectible route. They are not part of a fast clear, so decide before launch whether this is a completion sweep or a boss/loot run.

Rewards

What you're farming for

Featured rewards. Prophecy's set was reprised and re-perked in 2025's Rite of the Nine. Two dungeons are featured each week. Featured: Standard and Master drop Tier 5 weapons and armor; the Director challenge and hidden chests drop Tier 5 on a weekly lockout. Not featured: Standard drops Tier 3 weapons and armor; Master still drops Tier 5.

The chase

No dungeon exotic. Prophecy has never had one and still doesn't — anyone telling you otherwise is wrong. The real draw is the Trials-of-the-Nine-styled weapon set and two armor sets.

Current weapon pool: A Sudden Death (Shotgun), Adjudicator (SMG), Darkest Before (Pulse Rifle), Judgment (Hand Cannon), Prosecutor (Auto Rifle), and Relentless (Strand Pulse Rifle). Armor: Moonfang-X7 and the reprised Trials of the Nine set.

2025–26 reissue framing

The Rite of the Nine event (2025) reprised four of these weapons with new perks and a second origin trait, and added Adept versions from the highest difficulty (Ultimatum) with double perks and a galaxy effect.
