Read this first
Spire of the Watcher is a wiring puzzle under fire. Almost nothing here is a damage check — it's a routing check. Learn the Arctrician buff, learn to read the cables, and the whole dungeon turns from confusing into fast.
Unlocking it
Every dungeon Key lives in Destiny 2: The Collection — so access is no longer gated behind a single seasonal purchase the way it was at launch.
Own the relevant content via The Collection / a Dungeon Key, then launch Spire of the Watcher from the Director.
It sits on Mars at the Seraph facility — a Vex incursion into a Warmind site.
You need the Dungeon Key / Collection entry unlocked in the Director to launch it.
The one rule: trace, then shoot
The whole dungeon runs on the Arctrician buff. Kill a Conduit Minotaur, stand in the Arc pool it drops, and you can now activate Arc nodes by shooting them.
A node only powers the conduit it's physically wired to. So the skill isn't aiming — it's following the cable from the conduit you want back to the correct origin node, then shooting in order before the buff times out.
What wipes most groups: not enemies — the 30-second Arctrician timer and shooting the wrong node. Panic-shooting random dots burns your buff and resets nothing.
The Fiction
Why you're here
The wires you charge and conduits you route below aren't arbitrary — you are repowering a Warmind's fortress against the Vex trying to hijack it. Here's the story the dungeon is telling while you solve it.
A Warmind spire, half-taken
On Mars, Rasputin's old Seraph network has a rogue node — a Vex-infested Warmind spire where the machines are draining the facility's power to seize Rasputin's submind data and reactor systems. You climb to purge the conflux at its summit before a Warmind's fortress becomes a Vex conduit.
That is why you become charged with Arc to complete broken circuits and route power floor by floor. You are literally re-energizing the citadel against its invaders — a duel of two machine-gods over one derelict tower.
Restore the conduits, expose the Vex feeding on the flow, and cut their taps before they assimilate the grid.
Core Mechanic
Arc-node circuit logic
Three verbs run the entire dungeon, in this exact order. Get the buff, find the wire, shoot the node it feeds. Miss the order and you do nothing — and the timer keeps ticking.
Step 01 · Power up
Arctrician
› Kill Minotaur → stand in pool
A Conduit Minotaur drops a glowing Arc pool. Stand in it to gain Arctrician — a ~30s buff that lets you charge nodes. It refreshes a few seconds each time you light a correct node.
Step 02 · Read the line
Trace wire
› Follow cable to its node
Each conduit has a cable running to one origin node, often marked by a flashing arrow. Eyeball the line from the conduit you need back to the node before you commit a shot. Yellow lines = power, red lines = doors (Persys).
Step 03 · Light it
Power conduit
› Shoot node, then move
Shoot the node to power its conduit (a door opens, a rod charges, a circuit completes). Then chain to the next before Arctrician expires. Out of time? Kill another Minotaur and re-pool.
The mental model: conduits are the thing you want (a door, a fuel rod, the reactor); nodes are the switches; cables tell you which switch flips which thing. Persys adds a second colour — red cables = doors, yellow cables = reactor power — so you're routing two systems at once. See the spire route map.
Mechanic Checkpoints
What moves the encounter
Brief this before each pull: the progress trigger is what advances the room; the fail/wipe trigger is what must be routed, refreshed, or called immediately.
Ascend the Spire
Progress: kill Conduit Minotaurs, take Arctrician from the Arc pool, trace each cable from origin to end, and shoot the nodes in order before the buff falls off.
Fail/wipe: Arctrician expiring mid-circuit or missing a node stalls the lift/door. The encounter rarely hard-wipes, but repeated missed chains bleed revives and time.
Akelous
Progress: complete all fuel-rod circuits with Arctrician, wait for Akelous to expose the red eyes, break them, then damage the central core.
Fail/wipe: failing to pop every eye cancels real damage, and falling off the catwalks is the common death. Add control keeps node runners alive.
Persys
Progress: use red circuits for doors, yellow circuits for reactor nodes, arm the purge, lure Persys into the reactor room, close the red doors, then damage after the purge strips the shield.
Fail/wipe: confusing red and yellow circuits, closing doors too late, or letting Persys leave/cancel the purge wastes the phase and can trap players in lethal positions.
Field Maps
The climb at a glance
You ascend the spire to Akelous at its peak — then the reactor melts down and you descend through the tower to Persys in the core below. Three stages: the climbing wire puzzle, the Akelous Harpy arena at the peak, then the descent to the Persys reactor. Each encounter below carries its own detailed map next to the walkthrough.

The Ascent
Three encounters — climb, then descend
Follow the live Arc wiring up the spire. Every stage is the same loop scaled up — get Arctrician, trace the cables, power the conduits in order — with a boss layered on top of the puzzle.
1
Encounter · Spire base
Ascend the Spire
"Power the tower from the bottom up."
Lore lens · why it works
The Vex have colonized the spire's outer structure and cut its circuits. Charging with Arc and completing each broken conduit as you climb is you restoring the facility floor by floor — literally powering the Warmind's tower back on beneath the machines trying to drain it.
The loop
Kill the Conduit Minotaur and stand in its Arc pool to gain Arctrician (~30s).
Find a conduit that needs power and trace its cable back to the origin node (look for the flashing arrow).
Shoot the node to power the conduit — a door opens or a platform extends, letting you climb higher.
Chain through all the nodes for that gate before the buff drops; each correct node refreshes a few seconds.
Repeat up the tower. When a door won't open, you missed a node on its circuit — re-trace the wire.
TimerArctrician is the real boss of this stage. If it expires mid-climb, don't panic-shoot — find the nearest Minotaur, kill it, and re-pool before continuing.
SpeedMemorize the cable paths and you can pre-aim the next node as you reach each pool. The fastest runners barely stop moving — wire reading, not gunplay, is the time save.
ChestSecret chest #1 hides on a scaffolding platform beside a large pillar during the climb. A treasure-detector Ghost mod makes it obvious; it's an easy detour off the main route.

Solo: identical loop, just slower. Kill the Minotaur, pool, and clear one circuit at a time — there's no DPS or wipe pressure here, only the buff timer. Take it node-by-node.

Boss · Mid-spire arena
Akelous, the Siren's Current
"Charge the rods, then read the eyes."
Lore lens · why it works
Akelous, the Siren's Current is a Harpy whose shield cycles with the facility's power. Routing Arc through the rods to expose it is you seizing control of the very flow it feeds on — turning the spire's current against the thing that plugged itself into the grid.
The loop
Get Arctrician from a Conduit Minotaur as before.
Use the Arc nodes to charge the fuel rods around the arena — same trace-and-shoot logic, just on a clock with adds.
With the rods charged, regroup at the final one as Akelous (a massive Vex Harpy) approaches.
Akelous exposes red eyes — destroy them with primary fire to break its shield.
Shooting the eyes opens the central core eye — dump damage into it for the vulnerability window.
Repeat the rod-charge → eyes → core loop until Akelous dies.
ShieldAkelous keeps a rotating shield facing you — you can't simply nose-tap it. The eyes are the unlock; pop them to expose the damageable core.
AddsThe arena floods with Vex while you're juggling rods and the buff timer. Keep an add-clear primary ready so charging doesn't get interrupted.
ChestSecret chest #2 is not in this room. It's in the descent after Akelous — the electrified red-node room (Pillory-0 cell stack). Look under the corner stairs for a destructible grate that drops into a passage to the chest.

Solo: very doable but tense — you're the only one charging rods and popping eyes on the Arctrician clock. Take it one rod at a time, clear adds aggressively, and don't chase the core eye until every eye is gone.
Reading the eyes: the loop is fixed — destroy every exposed red eye to break the shield, which opens the central core eye for damage, then repeat. Watch what's glowing; only the currently-open eyes can be shot.
3
Boss · Reactor core
Persys, Primordial Ruin
"Two circuits, one purge, twenty seconds."
Lore lens · why it works
Persys, Primordial Ruin is the Minotaur mind draining the spire to seize its Warmind reactor and network systems. The timed purge — route both circuits, then strike in the window — is you severing its power taps before it assimilates the grid, cutting the Vex mind off from the Warmind's citadel it was trying to inhabit.
The loop — both circuits at once
Get Arctrician. The arena splits into a reactor side and a control/safe room.
Red cables control doors. Shoot the red nodes (on the pillars and above the main entry) to seal Persys where you want it.
Yellow cables power the reactor. Trace each yellow line from its start node behind a pillar to an end node inside the reactor chamber and complete both circuits.
With both yellow circuits done, arm the reactor core purge, then get everyone to the control room.
Shoot the red nodes to close all doors so Persys can't reach the purge and cancel it. The core explodes and strips Persys' shield.
When the central doors open, pour DPS into Persys — you have roughly ~20 seconds before the shield returns. Then reset the loop.
Two colorsThe #1 confusion: mixing the systems. Red = doors, yellow = reactor. Trace before you shoot — a wrong node wastes Arctrician and a whole cycle.
PurgeIf Persys reaches the purge before you seal the doors, it cancels your progress. Close the red door nodes fast once the purge is armed.
RolesIn a trio, split it: one on red doors, one or two on yellow circuits. Pre-assign who closes doors at purge so nobody fumbles the ~20s window.
ChestThe final chest after Persys is where Hierarchy of Needs can drop. On Master, clearing the encounter is the route to the catalyst.

Solo: the hardest solo lift in the dungeon because you alone must route both colours and beat Persys to the purge. Slow the fight down: fully set up one cycle, seal the doors, then commit to a clean ~20s burst with a reliable DPS option. Survivability over greed.
Damage-window note: treat the ~20s figure as a planning number — the burst is real but short, so set up a clean cycle and commit. Persys is a two-circuit routing puzzle first; whether you one-phase it matters far less than landing every shot inside that window.
Loadouts
Meta loadouts
Spire is power-floored and easy now, so almost anything clears it. The jobs that actually matter: steady single-target DPS for the short Akelous and Persys windows, reliable add-clear so node-routing isn't interrupted, and survivability for solo or Master. Build around one of each.
Boss DPS
For the short damage windows
Still Hunt Exotic
Golden-Gun sniper; pairs with Hunter Celestial Nighthawk for huge burst into the core eye / Persys.
Linear Fusions / heavy GLs
High sustained DPS that fits a tight ~20s window — bring whatever your slot supports this season.
Whisper of the Worm Exotic
Heavy precision sniper — strong, ammo-friendly single-target into exposed cores.
Gjallarhorn Exotic
Buffs the whole fireteam's rockets; great in a coordinated trio.
Add Clear
Keep routing uninterrupted
Graviton Lance / Sunshot Exotic
Chain-explosion primaries that clear Vex packs while you trace cables.
Riskrunner Exotic
Thematic and effective — Arc chain-lightning shreds the Vex swarm and you're swimming in Arc damage here.
Terminus Horizon
In-dungeon Arc MG with Voltshot — jolts and clears adds while doubling as add-pressure heavy.
Witherhoard Exotic
Passive area denial; tag Persys then swap to your DPS heavy.
Survivability
Solo & Master insurance
Tractor Cannon Exotic
Debuff the boss for a team-wide damage boost right before the window.
Healing / restoration tools
Keep yourself up while juggling the Arctrician timer; invaluable on Master.
Anti-Vex / overload options
On Master, match the active Champion mods and surges.
Warlock
Well of Radiance / Prismatic
A Well under the damage spot is the safest anchor for the Persys burst; Prismatic gives flexible healing for solo.
Titan
Prismatic / Thundercrash
Thundercrash is big burst on the exposed core; Prismatic mixes healing and Arc add-clear to taste.
Hunter
Golden Gun + Nighthawk
Celestial Nighthawk Golden Gun is a massive single-shot nuke into Akelous' core and Persys. Invis aspects help solo.
Loadout note: For a dungeon this easy the gap between "meta" and "what you already own" barely matters — burst into the short Akelous and Persys windows, keep an Arc add-clear running for routing, and bring what you're comfortable with.
Speedrun
Speed notes, not gospel
Spire is won on circuit fluency, not damage. The runners who finish fastest are the ones who never stop to think about which node feeds which conduit — they already know the wire.
1
Pre-trace the wire
Before you even have Arctrician, walk the cables and memorize node→conduit pairs. Then each buff window is pure execution: shoot, move, shoot, move.
2
Guard the buff timer
The most-lost time is a dropped Arctrician mid-circuit. Know where the nearest Minotaur is at all times so a re-pool costs seconds, not a full reset.
3
Pre-assign Persys roles
In a trio, lock in red-doors vs yellow-circuits and who slams the doors at purge. A clean hand-off makes the ~20s window count and can shave a whole phase.
4
Grab the recordings before Akelous
The Devilish Recordings collectible set is front-loaded before the first boss and historically boosts Hierarchy odds through its triumph. If you care about the bow, claim the triumph before finishing the run.
Rewards
What you're farming for
Featured rewards: Two dungeons are featured each week. Featured: Standard and Master drop Tier 5 weapons and armor; the Director challenge and hidden chests drop Tier 5 on a weekly lockout. Not featured: Standard drops Tier 3 weapons and armor; Master still drops Tier 5.
The chase: Hierarchy of Needs
Hierarchy of Needs is the dungeon's exotic — a Solar Combat Bow. Precision hits and final blows build energy; fully charged, hip-firing creates a Guidance Ring, and arrows fired through it become seeking projectiles that gain damage with travel distance.
Source: drops from the final chest after Persys (random per clear; completing the dungeon triumphs improves your odds). The catalyst comes from the Master version, then you finish it with kills.
The weapon pool (Tex Mechanica)
Spire's legendary set is western-styled Tex Mechanica gear with the Tex Balanced Stock origin trait. Commonly cited drops:
Terminus Horizon — Arc machine gun (can roll Voltshot).
Seventh Seraph reprised pieces (the Seventh Seraph Carbine — a Kinetic auto rifle — and the Seventh Seraph Officer Revolver, a Kinetic hand cannon) round out the set.
