Read this first

Sundered Doctrine is a reading test, not a damage check. It hands you a small alphabet of glyphs and teaches you to decode them with light and logic — no raid-veteran knowledge assumed. The thing that wipes groups isn't an enemy; it's miscommunication about symbols.

What this dungeon actually is

It's a symbol puzzle box. Every encounter asks: which glyphs are known, and what do I do with them — shoot them, route light to them, or call them true vs. lie?

Combat is light by dungeon standards. Your real job is fast, agreed-upon callouts and not breaking a light connection you already solved. Give the symbols nicknames before you start.

What old guides get wrong

Two traps to avoid in launch-era advice:

  1. Finality's Auger is Solar, not Strand — it's a Heavy Linear Fusion with a deployable turret, not a Strand LFR.
  2. Access changed in 2026. All Dungeon Keys now sit in The Collection, so ignore old "buy the key" steps.
The Fiction

Why you're here

The glyph-riddles and truth-or-lie reads below aren't arbitrary — the Pyramid speaks in doctrine, and a Dread schemer is trying to make it answer. Here's the story the dungeon is telling while you solve it.

A vault inside the Sunken Pyramid

The Hidden send you into the Sunken Pyramid in Savathûn's Throne World, where a leader of the Dread — Kerrev, the Erased — is rallying the Witness's leaderless remnants and Hive to crack open the Pyramid's deepest vault.

The Pyramid does not speak plainly: it answers in Darkness-riddles, and the Dread's whole scheme runs on doctrine and deception. Reading a glyph as truth or as lie is how you force the vault to open — or refuse to.

Decode the riddles, hold to what is real, and confirm the truth that keeps the vault sealed against him.

Core Mechanic

The three reads

Every puzzle in this dungeon is one of three operations on a symbol. Learn what each one asks of you and you've learned the whole dungeon — the encounters just stack and combine these. Symbol names vary by riddle, but the operations are the constant — learn those and you carry the whole dungeon.

Read · gain knowledge

Decode

› Learn which glyphs are known
Kill Truthspeakers / Preceptor Wizards or scan resonance to reveal a symbol. Two known glyphs let you infer the third by completing the riddle.
Light · build the path

Route

› Aim the beam into the wheel
Place & rotate lenses so the orange light beam lands on the correct symbol wheel. Don't cross your own beam — break a working line and you restart that link.
Judge · light the lies

Truth / Lie

› Light the lies, darken the truth
In the Kerrev fight a dropped glyph names the true set. Illuminate every lie, leave the truth dark. Light a truth symbol and the puzzle resets.
The one habit that wins this dungeon: agree on glyph nicknames out loud before each encounter ("Worm", "Stop", "Eye"…) so a read is a one-word callout, not a sentence. The symbols are a small set reused across all three encounters — once your team shares names, the puzzles collapse into quick calls. (See the route map and the per-encounter diagrams below.)
The Same Tongue

Vow's language, turned into a lie

Sundered Doctrine doesn't invent an alphabet — it reuses the exact 27-glyph tongue from Vow of the Disciple (and the Dual Destiny mission). Same words, same read-the-sentence grammar. What changes is whose hand is on the pen: this is Savathûn's Throne World, and the God of Lies bends the Witness's own script into a test of truth versus lie.

A sample of the words you'll be reading in the beams and on the wheels — the full set is decoded on the raid guide:

Guardian
Witness
Traveler
Pyramid
Light
Darkness
Hive
Worm
Savathûn
Kill
Stop

Here is the whole dungeon in one picture. Three glyphs, two arrangements — the language never changes, but only one reading is true:

Encounter 1 · complete the truth
Guardian
kill
Witness

"Guardian kill Witness" — a true statement (you did, in The Final Shape). Route the beam to finish the sentence. A Truthspeaker drops a glyph from the true set if you're stuck.

Kerrev · speak the lie
Witness
kill
Guardian

"Witness kill Guardian" — the same words reversed into a lie. Against Kerrev you light the lie and leave the truth dark. Illuminate a true symbol and the puzzle resets.

Why lies? The arbiters here are Truthspeakers, whose whole nature is to reveal what's true — so the final fight forces you to assert the opposite, a fitting inversion in the home of the God of Lies. Savathûn narrates the whole descent ("…the Vanguard's nosy little spies and all those grasping Dread"), scoring one more round in her endless game of truth and deception. Kerrev, the Erased tries to seize the vault using the Witness's own tongue; you beat em by learning that tongue well enough to lie with it.
Mechanic Checkpoints

What moves the encounter

Brief this before each pull: the progress trigger is what advances the room; the fail/wipe trigger is what must be decoded, banked, or called immediately.

The Riddle

Progress: identify the known glyphs, kill Truthspeakers and Subjugators for reveals and lenses, then route the light beam through the correct wheels to solve the set.

Fail/wipe: placing a lens can knock solved beams off target. Wrong glyph logic or players undoing each other's routes is the main way this room falls apart.

The Zoetic Lockset

Progress: kill Preceptor Wizards for Resonance Splinters, dunk them to bank Knowledge, rotate each of the four wheels' glowing symbols, then let the Lockset gaze leftmost→rightmost to lock the order and open the shared Shrieker damage window.

Fail/wipe: the Knowledge/Lockout timer punishes hoarding. Bad glyph order spawns extra pressure before DPS and can bury the team under Ogres, Wizards, and projectiles.

Kerrev, the Erased

Progress: read the true set from Truthspeaker logic, route lens beams onto every lie symbol while leaving truths dark, interact with the central wheel, survive the burn, then damage Kerrev.

Fail/wipe: lighting a truth symbol resets the puzzle. Dread and Hive add pressure turns rushed true-vs-lie calls into full phase losses.

Field Maps

The pyramid at a glance

Sundered Doctrine is a drowned Pyramid interior: a lens-and-wheel puzzle hall, a four-wheel lockset arena, then Kerrev's three-room shrine. Here's the whole route start-to-boss; each encounter below carries its own detailed diagram next to the walkthrough.

The Run

Three encounters, start to boss

Follow the violet guiding light between rooms. Each encounter is a different combination of the three reads — decode, route, judge — so the skill compounds as you go down.

Encounter · light puzzle

The Riddle

"Two glyphs known, and the third writes itself."
Lore lens · why it works

The Pyramid answers only to correct interpretation, never to force. The light-beam Riddle is doctrine made into a lock: routing the beams to the glyphs that follow is you reading the Darkness's argument correctly, proving understanding rather than firepower before the vault will yield a step.

The loop
  1. Scan the central resonance source and the wheels to see which symbols are already known.
  2. Kill Truthspeakers and Subjugators in the side rooms — Subjugators drop lenses, Truthspeakers reveal missing glyphs.
  3. Place a lens on a base and rotate it (red base mark = reference) to bend the orange light beam toward the correct wheel.
  4. With two glyphs read, infer the third by completing the riddle, then route light so the matching wheels light up.
  5. Solve all the wheels to open the way. Follow the guiding light — and grab secret chest 1 in the rocky opening just after.
Don't break itRouting a new lens can knock light off a beam you already solved. Plan the whole path, then place — and assign one player per beam so you're not undoing each other.
SpeedSplit the room: one decodes glyphs from Truthspeaker kills, one farms lenses, one routes. Fast nicknames make this the difference between 5 minutes and 15.
SoloSolo & solo-flawless viable. Nothing here is timer-gated against one player — you do every job yourself, so plan the whole beam path before you place a single lens and clear the side rooms at your own pace.
ChestSecret chest #1 is right after the encounter — look for a rocky structure with a small opening and follow the path in. A treasure-detector Ghost mod will ping it for you.

The Zoetic Lockset

"Four wheels, many consequences — choose what you summon."
Lore lens · why it works

The Zoetic Lockset is a knowledge-gated lock — it opens only for someone carrying understanding, not a key. Claiming a "Knowledge" buff and applying it before it fades is the doctrine theme made literal: the vault tests whether you can hold onto a truth long enough to speak it at the right wheel.

The loop
  1. Kill Preceptor Wizards to drop Resonance Splinters; dunk them to bank Knowledge — Heightened / Brimming / Overflowing (1 / 2 / 3 splinters) rotates a wheel one / two / three spaces.
  2. The room has four symbol wheels facing four Shriekers that share one health pool. Rotate each wheel's glowing symbol, then the Lockset gazes leftmost→rightmost, locking one per wheel.
  3. Glyphs spawn enemies (Ogres / Wizards), fire projectiles, or set up the damage window. Lock the safe ones to build toward DPS.
  4. Open the damage phase and burst the Shriekers; the wheel choices set how long that window lasts.
  5. Clear the lockset to advance. The worm / ribcage room just after hides secret chest 2 behind a small lens puzzle.
Buff timerA Lockout / Knowledge timer ticks down — bank and dunk before it expires or you lose progress. Don't hoard stacks; spend them.
OrderA reliable order is three "stop"-type glyphs then a "kill"-type to minimize spawns before DPS. Lock the low-spawn glyphs first so the damage window opens against a clean room.
SoloSolo viable, but the Knowledge / Lockout timer is the real solo tax — you bank, dunk, and lock alone, so favor the lowest-spawn glyph order and lean on survivability while you manage the wheel.
ChestSecret chest #2 sits past a room of Hive worm carcasses and a ribcage arch — solve a mini lens link (Worm → Enter) like Encounter 1.

Kerrev, the Erased

"Speak the lie aloud, and the truth cannot shield him."
Lore lens · why it works

Kerrev, the Erased wants to free the Dread from the voices that once commanded them — and his fight runs on the same truth-and-lie doctrine as the vault. Reading his glyphs correctly and answering them is you confirming what is real, refusing his interpretation so the deepest vault stays shut against him.

The loop — read, light, DPS
  1. Kerrev sits behind an invulnerable shield. Behind him is a dial of six symbols — three left, three right — one set true, one set lie.
  2. Lens beams route through three rooms — left, right, and a lower/underground room beneath the central arena. The left opens by shooting a door until it glows orange (slip through fast); the right by standing on a structure that lowers.
  3. Kill the Truthspeaker to drop a glyph — it names the true set. Reuse the lens mechanic to route orange beams onto every lie symbol; leave the truth dark.
  4. Lighting a truth symbol resets the puzzle — and managing the Dread + Hive adds while you read is the real test.
  5. With all lies lit, the shield breaks. Trigger the fire / damage setup and dump DPS on Kerrev.
  6. Repeat the read-and-DPS cycle until he falls. The chase chest sits behind him after the kill.
Reset riskThe most common wipe-causer is a wrong glyph lit. Confirm true vs lie out loud before anyone shoots — one mistaken light and you start the read over.
Dread addsExpect Dread faction threats (Attendants, Threadlings, possibly a Tormentor / Subjugator) plus Hive. Stagger Tormentor shoulders, pop Threadlings, and keep one player reading while others hold adds.
SoloSolo & solo-flawless viable. Reading and add-control fall on one Guardian, so prioritize survivability and invis to read safely; the shield phase has no timer pressure, so confirm true-vs-lie carefully and never rush a light.
ExoticFinality's Auger drops from Kerrev; focusing unlocks after the catalyst quest via Ikora.

Kill the Truthspeaker to learn the true set, place and rotate lenses so orange beams illuminate every lie symbol while truths stay dark, then use the central wheel, take cover from the burn, and deal damage. Loadouts

Meta loadouts

Combat here is light — the puzzles carry the difficulty — so flexible builds win. You want controlled add-clear that won't accidentally light a symbol, survivability for the Kerrev add waves, and focused burst DPS for the short Shrieker and boss windows. Build around one DPS option + one add-clear + a survivable subclass.

Boss DPS

Shrieker & Kerrev windows
Linear Fusions / Bait-and-Switch rockets
Reliable precision burst for short windows. Pair an LFR with a rocket for the Bait-and-Switch loop.
Finality's Auger Exotic
The dungeon's own Solar LFR — drop a Ruinscribe Turret, paint targets, and it adds sustained pressure during DPS.
Still Hunt + Celestial Nighthawk Exotic
Hunter Golden-Gun nuke for single-target burst on Kerrev.
Divinity Exotic
Team crit bubble — turns the read-gated windows into guaranteed damage for the fireteam.

Add Clear

Riddle, Lockset, Dread waves
Graviton Lance / Sunshot Exotic
Chain-explosion primaries that clear Truthspeakers and Threadlings fast.
Unworthy (Arc Scout)
Dungeon drop — Voltshot or Rapid Hit / Firefly clears mid-range packs while you read.
Witherhoard Exotic
Passive zone damage you can park on adds, then swap to read symbols.
Unsworn (Strand Trace)
Dungeon drop — steady ad-clear that severs/suspends to keep the Dread off you.

Survivability

Stay up while you decode
Restoration / woven mail builds
Solar Restoration or Strand woven mail keeps you alive while your attention is on the dial.
Tractor Cannon Exotic
Suppress / debuff a Tormentor or Subjugator and add a damage boost before a DPS window.
Invisibility / suspend tools
Buy time to read the symbols without dying to a Dread ambush.
Warlock
Well of Radiance / Prismatic

Drop a Well in a Kerrev DPS window for healing plus a damage buff, or run Prismatic for flexible healing while you read.

Titan
Prismatic / Thundercrash

Thundercrash is huge burst on the boss; Prismatic gives you barricades and ad-clear to anchor the symbol-reader.

Hunter
Prismatic + Golden Gun

Golden Gun with Celestial Nighthawk nukes Kerrev; invis aspects let you read symbols through a Dread swarm.

Loadout note: Because this dungeon's bottleneck is the puzzle, the gap between "meta" and "what you already own" barely matters here — bring whatever you read symbols with comfortably and any of these DPS, add-clear, and survivability shapes will carry you.
Speedrun

Speed notes, not gospel

Fast Sundered Doctrine runs are about reading speed and role discipline, not exploits.

1

Nickname every glyph

The single biggest time save is a shared vocabulary. One-word callouts ("Worm true, Eye lie") turn each puzzle into seconds. Set names before you start, not mid-fight.

2

Assign beams & rooms

In The Riddle, give each player a beam or side room so nobody knocks light off a solved line. In Kerrev, one reads the dial while others hold adds.

3

Don't hoard Knowledge

In the Zoetic Lockset the buff timer punishes hesitation. Bank, dunk, and lock the moment you have what you need — spent stacks beat expired ones.

4

Confirm before you light

The fastest Kerrev runs almost never reset. A two-second "true/lie?" check before a shot saves a full re-read. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Rewards

What you're farming for

Featured rewards: Two dungeons are featured each week. Featured: Standard and Master drop Tier 5 weapons and armor; the Director challenge and hidden chests drop Tier 5 on a weekly lockout. Not featured: Standard drops Tier 3 weapons and armor; Master still drops Tier 5.

The chase: Finality's Auger

Finality's Auger is an Exotic Solar Linear Fusion Rifle (Heavy) that drops from Kerrev, the Erased. Its perk deploys a Ruinscribe Turret via alternate fire and lets you paint targets so the turret prioritizes and hits harder. The catalyst (which adds a Bait-and-Switch-style damage boost) comes from a multi-step dungeon quest; finishing it with Ikora also unlocks focusing for Sundered Doctrine gear.

Note it is Solar, despite some launch-era posts calling it Strand.

Encounter loot

The dungeon's four Legendaries all roll the Subjugation origin trait (explode-on-hit vs. weak targets, Exhaust vs. strong, flinch resistance vs. Guardians):

  1. Unloved — Strand Hand Cannon (Heavy Burst)
  2. Unworthy — Arc Scout Rifle (Rapid-Fire)
  3. Unvoiced — Void Shotgun
  4. The Unsworn — Strand Trace Rifle
