Back to the field guideGarden of Salvation is a raid into the Black Garden — a realm outside time the Vex found and made their holy place — where the Darkness-touched Sol Divisive have made contact with the Witness's Black Fleet. You hijack the Vex's network of tethers and relays to overload two empowered Minds and sever a pact running on borrowed Darkness.
Every tether, mote, and relay is the same move: the Vex route their power as a chain, and you turn that chain against them — marching room by room toward the source of a broadcast that ends at a veiled statue and the first Pyramid Scale ever seen in the game.
The Black Garden is not a Vex-built place — it is a realm outside ordinary space and time that the Vex merely stumbled into, and it holds their oldest secrets.
The Black Garden was never truly a Vex place — it is a realm outside ordinary space and time that the Vex merely found, and it is tended and guarded by the collective called the Sol Divisive. When the Pyramid beneath the Moon awakened and a signal began pulsing from the Unknown Artifact Eris carried out of it, the trail led here, to the heart of the Garden where the Vex keep their oldest secrets.
Pushing inside, the fireteam finds the Sol Divisive at their maximum power — and something worse standing behind them. The Minds here have made contact with the Black Fleet and the Witness, and are being fed a fragment of that stolen Darkness. The whole raid is a forward march toward the source of the broadcast, room by tethered room, using the Vex's own Enlightenment conduit-logic against them: linked Guardians carry and deposit charge exactly the way the Vex route their power.
This is the first Destiny raid ever set in the Black Garden, and its ending reframes the saga. The signal terminates at a veiled statue identical to one found aboard the Pyramid, and killing the final Mind reveals a Pyramid Scale — the first ever seen in-game. What comes after is the Unveiling lore book: the Witness speaking to Eris and the Guardians directly, a creation parable meant to seduce as much as inform.
A hidden Vanguard operative sends you in, a distant power waits behind the Vex, and an older fireteam already tried to steal the Garden's holiest thing.
Eris carries the Unknown Artifact out of the Lunar Pyramid and tracks its signal into the Black Garden, sending the fireteam to sever the pact at its source. She warns that this is a trap the team must walk into with caution, not curiosity — and afterward insists that whatever the artifact broadcasts next must be discarded, not trusted.
Never fought here, the Witness is the power behind the raid: it has made contact with the Sol Divisive through the Black Fleet and empowered their Minds with a fragment of its Darkness. Its veiled statue at the Garden's heart, and the Unveiling messages that follow the raid, are its first sustained attempt to speak to the Guardians directly.
In Divinity's lore, the three-Guardian team Kentarch 3 — Rekkana, Lisbon-13, and Yardarm-4 — was sent by the Oneiromantic Circle to retrieve the sacred object the Vex worship in the Garden. Rekkana entrusts the relic to Lisbon-13 while Yardarm-4 buys them cover, framing the weapon you build as a stolen fragment of Vex divinity.
Read as narrative, the tethers stop being a gimmick. Every link, relay, and mote is the fireteam speaking the Vex's own language of connection back at them — and turning their empowerment ritual into the thing that kills them.
The Consecrated Mind is invulnerable here — it does not fight, it gatekeeps. Vex gates in the Garden open only to a tethered chain of linked Guardians, the same conduit-logic the Sol Divisive use to route power, so the team leapfrogs room to room as one connected line. To stay isolated is to be locked out; to stay linked and moving is to speak the Garden's own language of connection.
The four corner relays and the center node are pieces of the Vex power grid feeding the empowerment the Black Fleet granted the Sol Divisive. Charging and defending them is the fireteam siphoning that network's own current, holding the grid open long enough for the tethered chain to carry it deeper. Shielded Vex race to sacrifice themselves at the relays to drain it back.
The Consecrated Mind, Sol Inherent, runs as a mobile Harpy shielded by its own conflux dunk-cycle — a sacrificial economy of charge. The team chases it through a ring of rooms, snipes its exposed eye while Enlightened, and reroutes motes to the correct conflux, turning the Mind's own Enlightenment ritual into the opening that kills it.
The Sanctified Mind — the largest Minotaur in Destiny, empowered by the Black Fleet and marked with a Pyramid Scale — runs on borrowed Darkness. Portal teams gather motes, bank them at the left and right relays, then tether a charged relay to the Mind to force it past what its stolen power can hold. When it dies, a Pyramid Scale is revealed and the pact is severed.
The reveals the campaign never says out loud live in the trace rifle's lore tabs, a statue, and a single scale left in the hands of a borrowed god.
"Calibrate reality. Seek inevitability. Embody divinity."
The raid's exotic trace rifle, earned by the in-raid Divine Fragmentation quest. Its cage debuff traps and weakens a target for the whole fireteam — a stolen fragment of the very divinity the Vex worship in the Garden.
"When the Circle dreamed of the object, you were beside it."
Divinity's lore follows the Kentarch 3 fireteam, sent by Osiris's Oneiromantic Circle to retrieve the sacred object the Vex honor in the Garden. It frames the weapon as a relic pried loose from Vex worship.
"The first Pyramid Scale, left in the hands of a borrowed god."
Killing the Sanctified Mind reveals a Pyramid Scale — the first ever seen in-game — hard proof that the Sol Divisive had made direct contact with the Witness and the Black Fleet.
"They show us only what they want us to see."
The veiled statue at the Garden's heart, twin to one aboard the Pyramid, unlocks the Unveiling lore book — the Witness addressing Eris and the Guardians directly with a Darkness creation-parable meant to persuade.
Garden of Salvation shipped with Shadowkeep in October 2019, the expansion that pivoted Destiny 2 fully into the Darkness arc of the Light and Darkness Saga. Season of the Undying framed it: the Lunar Pyramid awakens, Eris recovers the Unknown Artifact, and its signal draws the fireteam into the Black Garden.
Narratively the raid is the saga's first hard contact with the Witness's forces through a proxy. The Sol Divisive here are the first faction shown taking the Black Fleet's empowerment, and the Pyramid Scale and veiled statue are the first tangible artifacts of that alliance — the thread that runs forward through Beyond Light, the Witch Queen, and Lightfall to The Final Shape.
It remains a current, launchable raid from the Director — it was never vaulted alongside the Red War-era content. Later systems (tiered loot, armor set bonuses, featured-raid rotation) layer on top of it, but the story beat it anchors — the moment the Witness first reached out — still sits near the opening of the Darkness saga.
