A tomb that wants you behind glass

A drowned Pyramid in Savathûn's Throne World is the private tomb, museum, and armory of Rhulk, the Witness's First Disciple. It is not a fortress you storm so much as a private collection you break into — and the collection is conquered worlds.

To reach him you must learn his master's glyph-tongue, ransack his gallery of extinguished civilizations, and turn his own stolen power back on him — all while the Pyramid quietly asks whether your fireteam is a visitor here or the next thing behind the glass.

01 · The Setting

A drowned Pyramid nobody led you to

Half-buried in the swamps of Savathûn's Throne World, the Sunken Pyramid is a working record of the Witness's long war on the Traveler's children — and the cage of the first being it ever raised up.

Vow of the Disciple takes place inside a Sunken Pyramid half-buried in the swamps of Savathûn's Throne World — a Darkness vessel that, unlike every Pyramid before it, nothing guided you to. Guardians simply found it, and no one is certain that was an accident. Inside waits Rhulk, the very first being the Witness ever raised up as a Disciple, sealed there by a curse Savathûn laid after a Ghost raised her as a Lightbearer.

The Pyramid is a working record of the Witness's long war on the Traveler's children. Its obelisks speak an alien symbol-language, its halls are patrolled by a fused worm-and-machine warden, and its central gallery is a literal museum of conquered civilizations — the Exhibition — displaying relics and powers looted from species the Disciples wiped out. This is where the raid parks a Guardian's own trophies (Vault of Glass's Aegis, Taken essence from the Dreaming City) behind glass, as if we are the next exhibit.

The deeper meaning is a warning. Rhulk was posted here to breed the Worm larvae that would one day become the Hive — meaning this half-forgotten swamp is where Savathûn's whole species was seeded. The raid ends not with triumph but with Ikora's dread: killing one Disciple was a taste of success, barely achieved. The Witness and its Black Fleet are still coming.

The museum's newest wing: the Exhibition doesn't just display alien loot — it holds a Guardian's own trophies behind glass, the Vault of Glass Aegis and Dreaming City Taken essence among them. The raid is quietly asking whether you are the museum's visitor or its next acquisition.
02 · The three who made this cage

The Disciple, his master, and his jailer

Rhulk's tomb is the crossing point of three eons-old grudges: the being the Witness remade, the entity it serves, and the Witch Queen who locked the door.

First Disciple · final boss

Rhulk

Rhulk, Disciple of the Witness was born on the Traveler-blessed world of Lubrae, betrayed by his own family and cast into the Abyss, where the Witness healed him and gave him purpose. Remade, he slaughtered his entire people and used the Traveler's own technology to snuff out Lubrae's sun — then answered his transformation with a single word: "Relief." As First Disciple he seeded the Hive and razed uplifted worlds for millennia.

Rhulk's master · the Darkness

The Witness

The vast entity that pulled Rhulk out of the Abyss and reforged him into its first and most devoted enforcer. It rules the Black Fleet and pursues the Final Shape — an end to a universe it deems too full of pain to be worth its freedom. Rhulk's every ritual in the Pyramid is in service to it, and his dying breath is a plea to it for forgiveness.

Jailer of the Pyramid

Savathûn

After her Ghost, Immaru, raised her as a Lightbearer and she broke with the Witness, Savathûn cursed Rhulk's Sunken Pyramid, trapping him inside her Throne World and denying him the Upended — the realm-ending weapon he threatened her with. She then told the Witness she had done it, and while imprisoned Rhulk summoned the Scorn against her Lucent Hive. Rhulk despised her, calling her "a frog... small and colorful but toxic to touch." Their eons-long rivalry is why the Disciple was caged where Guardians could finally reach him.

BuriedThe whole raid is only reachable because two of the Witness's own servants turned on each other. Savathûn didn't kill Rhulk — she couldn't — so she walled him inside her Throne World and stripped him of the Upended he'd threatened her with. The Disciple you finally kill was left in a cage built by the Witch Queen's spite, not the Vanguard's strategy.
03 · The story, encounter by encounter

What each room is really doing to you

Read as narrative, the mechanics stop being arbitrary. Every symbol, obelisk, and relic hand-off is one step deeper into a Disciple's private collection — and one step closer to becoming part of it.

The Acquisition

Learn the Witness's tongue

The Pyramid's obelisks speak in the Witness's glyph-language, and the vault refuses anyone who cannot read it. Splitting into sectors to match Glyphkeeper symbols and shoot the correct mark is you proving you can parse the Disciple's alien script. The rising Pervading Darkness is the structure trying to reject readers who fall behind.

The Caretaker

The warden of the vault

The Caretaker is Rhulk's own creation — a hulking abomination fused from Worm larvae and Pyramid tech, built during his imprisonment to guard the halls. It hauls itself toward an obelisk to overflow it and purge the intruders; feeding the obelisks their symbols wrests the vault's controls away from it. Stunning its face and exposed back pries its attention off the ritual long enough to descend.

The Exhibition

Museum of extinguished worlds

This flooded gallery is the Witness's trophy hall — relics and powers taken from every civilization its Disciples erased, displayed like specimens. The relic you ferry is one of those captured artifacts, and you use the collection's own power to open the doors deeper. It is the raid quietly asking whether the Guardians are visitors here or the next acquisition.

Rhulk, Disciple of the Witness

The Disciple's ruin

Rhulk fights with Lubrae's Ruin, the glaive he used to burn his own homeworld, and stands ready to seal the Light out of the Throne World forever. Siphoning his resonance into Leeching and Emanating Force turns his master's Darkness back on him, while his sweeping eye-beam hunts the room. Guardians end the First Disciple with the very power the Witness once gave him.

04 · Buried in the Pyramid

The lore hidden in the loot

The reveals the campaign never says out loud live in exotic flavor text, item lore, wall-carvings, and the completion cinematic.

Collective Obligation
Exotic weapon · Rhulk drop
"What the Witness gave me, I give to you. May it serve you in death, or in finality."

The raid's exotic Void pulse rifle, dropped by Rhulk. Its Void Leech intrinsic siphons suppression, weakening, and volatile off targets and lets you reapply them — the Disciple literally handing you his master's power.

Rhulk's final words
Cinematic dialogue
"You have served your purpose. All that awaits you now is the gift of death."

Rhulk fights convinced Guardians are unworthy of the Witness's purpose. In death his body petrifies into gnarled Darkness as he cries out to the Witness for a forgiveness that never comes.

The Prophecy Wall
Item text / environment
"The Witness will commune with the Traveler and drink the Light."

Glyph-script carved into the Pyramid spells out the Witness's plan step by step — the Black Fleet reaches Earth (Lightfall), then communes with the Traveler to drink the Light (The Final Shape). The very last glyph was smashed off a fallen pillar, leaving the object of "the Witness will kill ___" unreadable — a blank only Salvation's Edge filled. Decode the whole wall →

Ikora's warning
Grimoire / cinematic
"The Witness and its followers — they're coming. All of them."

The completion cinematic reframes the whole victory: one dead Disciple is barely a taste of success. Savathûn's Throne World was only the doorway to the war the Saga has been building toward.

05 · The Prophecy Wall

The whole saga, written on a wall

Between the Caretaker and the Exhibition, a jumping puzzle hides a wall of glyphs. Written in the Pyramid's own 27-symbol tongue — the full decoder lives on the guide — it translates word by word to the Witness's entire plan, carved years before any of it came true.

The last word was missing. A collapsed pillar had physically broken the final glyph off the wall, so the object of "the Witness will kill ___" was left unreadable inside the raid — and players could not fill the blank for two years.

Not the tease of one expansion — a map of the whole ending. Vow shipped in early 2022, yet its wall lays out the back half of the Light & Darkness Saga in order: the Black Fleet reaching Earth became Lightfall (2023); the Witness communing with the Traveler to drink the Light became The Final Shape (2024); and the smashed final glyph — what the Witness would kill — was not answered until The Final Shape's raid, Salvation's Edge. The Disciples wrote the future on a wall and dared you to learn to read it.
06 · Where it sits in the saga

The raid that gave the Darkness a face

Vow of the Disciple sits deep in the Light and Darkness Saga, in the stretch after Beyond Light where the Darkness stops being a weather system and gains a face. The Witch Queen (2022) gave the Darkness a chess-master (Savathûn) and, through this raid, its true author: the Witness and its Disciples. Vow is the moment the endgame's real antagonist steps into focus.

Chronologically the raid is a hinge. It confirms the Witness commands multiple Disciples, that the Pyramids are their tombs and tools, and — via the Prophecy Wall — spells out the plan that Lightfall and The Final Shape would go on to execute. Killing Rhulk proves Disciples can die, but Ikora's closing line makes clear this was one skirmish in a much larger invasion.

It is firmly a Saga entry, not a Fate Saga (post-Final Shape / Edge of Fate) one. Everything here — the Worm-seeding backstory, the Final-Shape rhetoric in Collective Obligation's lore — feeds the arc that culminated in the Witness's defeat, well before the newer Fate Saga era the site tracks elsewhere.
