Subclasses
Destiny 2 · Subclass Suite · Monument of Triumph

Subclasses & BuildsSix damage types. One routing map.

The hub for the whole subclass suite. Pick a damage type, learn the cross-element verbs, and route into the page that goes deep. Five elements plus Prismatic — three classes each — wired the same way: Super, grenade, melee, class ability, jump, two Aspects, a handful of Fragments. This page is the map; each element and class page is the territory. Built on the Monument baseline, Destiny 2's final content sandbox; these are settled recommendations, not a rotating tier list.

How the subclass system works

One screen of plumbing, then go to your element. Every subclass — Light or Dark — is built from the same five ability slots plus an Aspect/Fragment layer. Learn the frame once; it never changes between elements.

The five ability slots

Every subclass equips the same shape:

  • Super — your big cooldown. Roaming, one-shot, or a placed buff/well.
  • Grenade & Melee — your element's repeatable damage and verb-appliers.
  • Class ability — Rift (Warlock), Barricade (Titan), or Dodge (Hunter).
  • Jump — movement option; flavor, not firepower.

Aspects & Fragments

This is where builds are actually made:

  • You slot two Aspects. Aspects are class-specific and reshape how the kit plays.
  • Each Aspect opens a number of Fragment slots; Fragments are shared across all three classes of that element.
  • Many Fragments carry a stat rider — picking Fragments is also picking stats.

Light

Solar, Arc, Void. The original three. Built around burn/sustain, speed/chain-lightning, and void manipulation — they share the "3.0" Aspect/Fragment frame.

Dark

Stasis, Strand. The Darkness elements: freeze-and-shatter crowd control and suspend/grapple mobility. Same Aspect/Fragment plumbing, different verbs.

Prismatic

A Light + Dark blend that mixes Aspects across elements and uses its own Facet pool instead of element Fragments. The flexible endgame answer — its own deep dive.

Monument baseline: last gameplay patch Update 9.7.0.3 (2026-07-07). Update 9.7.0.4 (2026-07-28) shipped without notes; Update 9.7.0.5 (2026-10-07) is an anti-cheat back-end fix only. Checked 2026-10-08. Only claims on Bungie's active Known Issues list are flagged inline. Per-element deep dives live in the Solar, Arc, Void, Stasis and Strand pages; the Light+Dark blend is in Prismatic; the build loop is wired up in Buildcrafting.

The roster at a glance

Five elements plus Prismatic. Each card names the core verb, the class identities, and the reason to run it — then links to its full element page.

Light · burn / sustain

Solar Light

Verbs
Scorch → Ignite, Radiant, Restoration, Cure. Stack burn until the room detonates; never stop shooting.
Classes
Dawnblade · Sunbreaker · Gunslinger — heal anchor, slam bruiser, precision DPS.
Run It
Best all-round sustain element and home of premier boss-burst (Nighthawk, Still Hunt).
Solar guide →

Verbs
Jolt, Blind, Amplified, Ionic Traces. Chain lightning between targets and move fast while you do it.
Classes
Stormcaller · Striker · Arcstrider — chain-lightning, shoulder-charge, melee blur.
Run It
Aggressive add-clear and tempo; Amplified speed turns survival into pressure.
Arc guide →
Light · control / sustain

Void Light

Verbs
Volatile, Weaken, Suppress, Devour, Invisibility, Overshield. The toolbox element — debuff or vanish.
Classes
Voidwalker · Sentinel · Nightstalker — Devour caster, shield bruiser, invis support.
Run It
Team debuffs (Weaken), self-sustain (Devour/Overshield), and stealth utility in one element.
Void guide →

Verbs
Freeze → Shatter, Slow, Stasis Crystals. Lock targets in place, then break them for burst AoE.
Classes
Shadebinder · Behemoth · Revenant — crystal caster, slam tank, shuriken freeze.
Run It
The crowd-control king: freeze stops a room cold, Shatter cleans it up.
Stasis guide →
Dark · suspend / weave

Strand Dark

Verbs
Suspend, Sever, Unravel, Tangles, Woven Mail. Yank targets off the ground and shred their damage.
Classes
Broodweaver · Berserker · Threadrunner — minion caster, Frenzied blades, grapple skirmisher.
Run It
Suspend is soft crowd-control plus damage; grapple is the best mobility in the game.
Strand guide →
Light + Dark · blend

Prismatic Hybrid

Verbs
Mix Light and Dark verbs in one kit; build Transcendence by dealing both damage types, then pop a hybrid grenade.
Classes
All three classes get a Prismatic kit — cross-element Aspects and a dedicated Facet pool, not element Fragments.
Run It
The flexible endgame default: pair any buff with any control verb without a subclass swap.
Prismatic guide →
One note: every class carries 4th Aspects across these kits, so the shapes above are the settled list. Open the element page for the full per-class Aspect lineup before locking a build.

Light vs Dark, in one sheet

Every build is a sentence made of these words. Aspects and Fragments are shared by element; the verbs below are the cross-element cheat sheet. Learn them once and the fragment text on any page reads itself.

Light verbsSolar · Arc · Void
Key Light-element verbs (Solar, Arc, Void) with one-line effects.

Light / Dark verb-mapBuff · Debuff · Control · Sustain
Light and Dark verb-map A two-column map. The left column groups the three Light elements: Solar offers Scorch, Radiant and Restoration; Arc offers Jolt, Blind and Amplified; Void offers Volatile, Weaken and Devour. The right column groups the two Dark elements: Stasis offers Freeze, Slow and Shatter; Strand offers Suspend, Sever and Woven Mail. A center spine labels the four roles every verb falls into — buff, debuff, crowd-control, and sustain — and notes that Prismatic blends both columns. Light Dark roles ↓ Solar Scorch · Radiant · Restoration Arc Jolt · Blind · Amplified Void Volatile · Weaken · Devour Stasis Freeze · Slow · Shatter Strand Suspend · Sever · Woven Mail buff debuff crowd control sustain Prismatic blends both columns

How to use this: when an Aspect or Fragment names a verb, the role it serves — buff, debuff, control, or sustain — tells you what slot it fills in your build. The per-verb thresholds (stack caps, Freeze durations, Weaken %) are spelled out on each element page.
03 · Decision Table

Which element should I run?

Pick by what the activity actually asks of you. Every element name links to its full page. These are PvE-first verdicts on the settled Monument baseline, so they hold rather than rotating week to week.

Which element to run, grouped by goal, with the recommended elements and the reason.
I need to...RunWhy
Clear adds fast Arc, Solar, Strand Jolt chains, Ignitions, and Unravel/Tangles all turn one kill into many. Arc is the tempo pick.
Stay alive solo Solar, Void, Strand Restoration, Devour/Overshield, and Woven Mail are the strongest self-sustain loops.
Do single-target DPS Solar (Nighthawk), Void (Weaken) Solar owns burst supers; Void's Weaken is the team-wide damage multiplier.
Lock down / crowd-control Stasis, Strand Freeze stops a room cold; Suspend lifts a pack off the ground. The Dark elements own control.
Support the team Void (invis/Weaken), Solar (Well/heal) Void brings stealth + the debuff; Solar brings the healing/empowering pool. Both are buff anchors.
Stay flexible end-to-end Prismatic Blend a buff with a control verb in one kit and build Transcendence — no subclass swap needed.
Win duels in Crucible Crucible hub, PvP builds PvP flips this whole table — survival and range beat add-clear, and the element roles shift (Solar sustain, Arc tempo/blind, Void invis/suppress, Stasis denial, Strand mobility). Start at the PvP spine, not a PvE verdict.
One rule: read the goal, not a stale tier list. With the sandbox settled on the Monument baseline these verdicts hold, but Prismatic often outflanks a mono-element pick once you have the right exotic — so check the element page for the exotic that defines your loop before committing a farm or a flawless attempt.
04 · Going Deeper

Wire it into a real build

Picking an element is step one. The build loop, the stat system, and your weapons are the other three — and per-class builds live in the class guides. These are the pages that turn a verb into a loadout.

The loop

Buildcrafting

How Super → ability → fragment → mod chains into a self-sustaining engine. Start here once you've picked an element.

The stats

Armor 3.0

The six-stat system, breakpoints, and how Fragment riders feed it. The math behind every "push Weapons to 200" note.

The guns

Weapon System

Damage types, intrinsic Champion coverage, and the one-DPS / one-add-clear / one-survival weapon triangle that backs any subclass.

The classes

Per-class builds

Full loadouts by class: Warlock · Titan · Hunter. Aspects are class-specific, so finish here.
