A Vex-network labyrinth exotic mission in the Pinnacle Ops — decode shape-sequence puzzles, push through the Avalon simulation, and break Variant Stalker Brakion, Repurposed Mind across three arenas to claim Vexcalibur, the Void glaive that guards itself with a near-infinite overshield. Fully craftable from a single clear.
The shape puzzles aren't arbitrary — Vex geometry is a language, and this whole node is a machine defending itself. Here's the story you're logging into.
A signal draws you into the AVALON node of the Vex Network — named for the Arthurian isle of healing — where faint echoes of Asher Mir seem to have survived inside the machine. You break a repurposed Vex Mind set to guard the node.
Your reward is the network's own defense turned against it. Vexcalibur — the "Excalibur" to Avalon's isle — is a Void glaive that manifests a near-infinite overshield, the node's self-protecting logic reforged into a weapon you can carry out.
The columns are a login. Read the shape-sequence the Vex speak, feed the network its own data-quota, and pull the blade meant to keep you out.
Intrinsic — M1R Distribution Matrix: guarding with the glaive grants a Void Overshield to you and nearby allies. Its Perpetual Loophole trait makes melee final blows refresh and extend the overshield — with enough adds to chew through, the overshield is effectively self-sustaining. You also deal bonus damage while overshielded, so it both protects and amplifies. The premier survivable add-clear glaive.
Craft it: your first completion on any difficulty drops a Deepsight Vexcalibur — extract or dismantle it at the Relic in the Enclave on Mars to unlock the craftable pattern. Vexcalibur is fully craftable from that single clear; each later weekly completion grants the next M1R Distribution Matrix intrinsic tier (II-IV) to slot when reshaping the glaive.
Catalysts: the three Retrofits require a higher-difficulty clear (the Director’s reward preview shows the tier) and unlock one per week — Robber Refit (melee final blows reload from reserves — the standout for its punch-heavy playstyle), Immovable Refit (ranged damage feeds weapon energy while stationary with shield up), and Feedback Refit (blocking damage partially reloads from reserves). Only one Retrofit equips at a time; reshape at the Enclave to swap. Earning all three also awards the Scribetrace exotic Ghost Shell.
Open the Director, go to Vanguard Ops → Pinnacle Ops, open the Pinnacle tab, pick NODE.OVRD.AVALON, and choose a difficulty and any modifiers before launching. It's a permanent Pinnacle Ops entry.
The legacy unlock — collecting six Vex cubes in The Gulch on the EDZ and talking to a Friendly Harpy — is no longer required now that the mission lives in Pinnacle Ops.
Two shape-and-data puzzle encounters split by parkour, then a three-arena Minotaur boss. Read the columns before you shoot — wrong inputs cost you the most time.
A Vex Minotaur boss — the reused strike boss from The Pyramidion — fought across three connected arenas. He wields a Void Line Rifle and periodically teleports between arena corners, gating his health behind shield phases you crack with the shape puzzle.
In the final arena, after losing his last shield, he loses his head and enrages, sprinting and stomping while firing continuously. Cover is sparse — fight from the few blocks and Radiolaria waterfalls and keep an overshield up through the burn.
To the Vex, geometry is language — the columns spell an authentication sequence you "log in" with, and depositing data feeds the network its own quota to spoof a legitimate process. Stalker Brakion is a Pyramidion Minotaur reused as the node's gatekeeper, so his shield phases are that authentication: crack the sequence and the machine stops recognizing him as its lock.
Vexcalibur is a Void melee glaive that lives off its overshield loop, so pair it with the artifact that discounts Void weapon mods and keeps the Void economy turning. The Artifact 2.0 layer accelerates the build — it doesn't gate it.
Why: it discounts Void weapon mods and feeds a Void Breach loop around the glaive's Void damage — exactly Vexcalibur's element. Cheaper Void mods free up the energy to stack the loop, and the Breaches keep your ability economy fed while you stay in melee range under the overshield.
Alternative: Tablet of Ruin — its Volatile → Weaken Void perks amplify both Vexcalibur's overshield uptime and its damage, so guarded melee strikes hit harder and proc more Void verbs across the add waves.
Where Vexcalibur fits in a Void build, plus the glaives and supports to pair with it.
