A timed Io platforming-and-combat exotic mission in the Pinnacle Ops that rewards Whisper of the Worm — the heavy sniper with the legendary White Nail intrinsic — now fully craftable and catalyst-upgradeable through repeat clears. Free-to-play.
The Blights and hidden Oracles aren't just obstacles — you're chasing a dead Worm-God's echo into a temple that's half-simulation. Here's the story behind the whisper.
Chasing a Taken incursion on Io, you follow the whisper of Xol, Will of the Thousands — the Hive Worm-God whose severed influence still lingers — into a hidden Taken temple. Eris Morn helps you refine what you find.
Your reward carries that god inside it. Whisper of the Worm, the heavy sniper, holds a shard of the Worm-God’s essence — its "White Nail" refill-on-precision is Xol’s hunger made mechanical, a gun that feeds on the kills you land.
Sever the incursion’s anchors, coax the temple to give up its hidden Oracles, and walk out with a Worm-God’s appetite in your hands.
Intrinsic — White Nail: landing three rapid precision hits auto-refills the magazine straight from reserves, so a steady hand becomes sustained burst DPS with no reload. The original "no-reload" boss sniper, and still a damage-rotation staple.
Craft it: your first completion (any difficulty) drops a Deepsight Whisper — extract it at the Enclave to unlock the craftable pattern. Each repeat clear awards an intrinsic crafting upgrade. The Whisper quest is deprecated; the Exotic now arrives on completion, and the mission’s secrets still count toward Triumphs.
Catalyst: is a higher-difficulty reward, not a first-clear drop. The Director's reward preview shows the tier that lists it. Once charged, Whispered Breathing grants bonus range and precision damage while you hold ADS without firing.
Open the Director, go to Vanguard Ops → Pinnacle, pick The Whisper, and choose a difficulty. It's a permanent Pinnacle Ops entry and free-to-play.
The time limit starts on load — the Director shows it for your difficulty and modifiers (13:00 and 15:37 on the Master setups we ran) — but it is a score target, not a fail state: a solo Master run that finished at 23:48 still cleared. There are no checkpoints, so the whole run is one continuous push. Hidden Oracles and chests still spawn for collectors.
A timed jump puzzle into a combat gauntlet, ending on an immune-gated Ogre. Move efficiently — the clock runs the whole time.
A Taken Ogre, preceded by the three-boss Aspect trio. Tulgorh is immune until you kill the Taken Shield Weaver (Wizard) pair near the back of the arena, which opens a damage window.
As its health drops it resummons the Wizards (re-shielding itself) and floods the room with Shadow Thralls and fresh Blights. Repeat the kill-Wizards → damage cycle from cover until it dies, then open the chest behind it.
The Taken Blights are the incursion’s anchors — clearing one severs the corruption holding a door, and Whisper shatters them cleanly. The Vex Cubes and hidden Oracles mark where the temple bleeds into simulation. Tulgorh’s shield is woven by a pair of Wizards; kill the weavers and it simply re-binds them as fast as you break it, which is why the fight is a loop rather than a burn.
Whisper is a precision boss-DPS heavy sniper, so pair it with the artifact that stacks sniper damage and feeds a swap rotation. The Artifact 2.0 layer accelerates the build — it doesn't gate it.
Why: its Sniper's Meditation stacks Sniper damage, stability, and reload as you land hits — exactly Whisper's loop — and Radiant Orbs keep you Radiant for the precision bonus. The premier sniper / Prismatic DPS artifact, ideal if you run Whisper alongside Still Hunt or Izanagi's Burden.
Solar alternative: Queensfoil Censer — on a Solar build, Radiant uptime (Fever and Chill, Heart of the Flame) raises Whisper's precision damage during the phase.
Where Whisper fits in a DPS rotation, plus the legendary heavies and supports to pair with it.
